DIY solder fluids, solder grease, welding powder & more...

Soldering fluids

Hydrochloric acid is completely neutralized with zinc, so zinc chloride is obtained. Colophonium or ammonium chloride are also used. A solution of 15% zinc chloride, 25% glycerin and 60% water is also very suitable for soldering brass, copper and tin.

Silver is soldered with an alloy of 20 to 70% silver, 50 to 18% copper and the rest zinc. The fluxing agent is borax or mixtures thereof with boric acid.

Soldering grease and fluid

- Liquid:

Salmiac (ammonium chlor.) 100
dl
Vaseline oil 900
dl
- Ointment-like:
Salmiac 25

- For electr. connections:

Finely powdered rosin 100
dl
Strong ammonia

 (salmoniac spirit) 15
dl
Take as much of the strong ammonia as necessary to grind the resin powder into a stiff paste.
- Soldering fluids:

Phosphoric acid 4

Lactic acid 100
dl
Glycerin 100
dl
Water 800

Glass solder

Tin 90
dl
Aluminum 10
dl
or:
Tin 95
dl
Zinc 5
dl
or:
Tin 95
dl
Copper 5
dl
These alloys adhere well to hot glass. The glass is made very hot and the solder is rubbed on the heated parts. The solder can be evenly distributed with a roll of paper or aluminum. The parts to be welded are then pressed together and allowed to cool.
